Moving home is one of the most exciting — and hectic — things you'll ever do. Use this free checklist to stay on top of everything, from booking your removal company to settling into your new home.
8 Weeks Before
Confirm your moving date with your solicitor or letting agent
Get quotes from removal companies and book early — weekends and end of month fill up fast
Start decluttering — sell, donate, or dispose of anything you don't want to take

Research schools, doctors, and dentists in your new area if needed
Notify your employer of your new address
4 Weeks Before
Start collecting packing boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape
Begin packing non-essential items — books, ornaments, out-of-season clothes
Notify your bank, HMRC, and any subscriptions of your new address
Redirect your Royal Mail post to your new address
Contact your utility providers (gas, electric, water, broadband) to arrange transfers or new accounts
Notify your insurance providers — home, car, and contents
2 Weeks Before
Confirm all details with your removal company — time, addresses, access arrangements
Arrange parking for the removal van at both addresses if needed

Pack up most rooms, leaving only daily essentials
Label every box clearly with its contents and which room it belongs in
Defrost your fridge and freezer
Arrange care for children or pets on moving day
The Day Before
Pack a moving day essentials box — kettle, mugs, tea, snacks, phone charger, toiletries, change of clothes
Dismantle any furniture that needs to be taken apart
Charge your phone and any other devices
Confirm your new address keys are ready to collect
Get a good night's sleep — moving day is a big one!
Moving Day
Be ready when the removal team arrives
Do a final walk-through of every room, loft, garage, and shed
Check all windows and doors are locked
Take meter readings at both properties
Hand over keys to your old property
Direct the removal team to the correct rooms at your new home
After You Move In
Check all boxes and furniture have arrived and nothing is damaged
Locate the fuse box, stopcock, and boiler at your new home
Change the locks on your new home for peace of mind
Register with a local GP and dentist
Update your driving licence and vehicle registration with your new address
Update the electoral roll with your new address
